Here is a pic of the draw bar style hitch on my open stock gas truck. Thought that maybe some people would like to see how some of these are setup.

Has anyone ever done a comparison with the supporting or adjustment point connected at either the rear of the frame or the rear axle?

Ideally if your hitch angle matches the angle of the sled chain, there should be little load on the support/adjustment point.

why is there a bar going to your diff cover?

The other end is attached to the drawbar, and it's threaded on both ends for up and down adjustability.

doesnt that put a lot of load on the diff cover?

It's not a stock cover. It has a 1/2" thick flange, and the rest is 1/4" thick plate.

Got ya
Did you ever see freighttrain when it was up that way? He had version 1 of our hitch, I have version 3 on my truck. From videos mine seems to work just a little better then V1

Unfortunately no. The guy that bought it stayed to the brush pulls due to him liking to run N20.

Post some pic up. Curious to see what you guys came up with.

How much pressure do you think the rear cover gets put on it?

Looks good Jim. Hopefully you guys will get to pull tonight. Rain just stopped now and the sun is out.

Like John said the angle of the sled chain and the drawbar angle should take most of the load.
But this cover is very stout It's not a stock cover. It has a 1/2" thick flange, and the rest is 1/4" thick plate.

If the hitch angle was close to 30 degrees, the diff cover shouldn't see much load at all. If the angle is 15 degrees, I would say the diff is seeing about 50% of what the draw bar pull is.

What's the theory for tucking the pivot bolt way up under the bed above the rear axle? How does it transfer the load differently?

Thanks
Chris

The idea is to get the load transfered as far forward as you can so that it pulls down on the complete chassis instead of just the rear of the truck. How much it actually helps depends on how you have it setup.
