: Question for Hookman
MrsTNRGreene 08-04-2008, 07:46 PM Keith,
We have not made any modifications yet, but wanted to know how much we can shorten the frame? We heard there was a problem with one of the gas trucks and wasn't sure if that was the problem.
Freighttrain 08-04-2008, 11:00 PM Do you plan on running Outlaw? If so, I don't think it matters. If you plan on running any other class, I would put the sawsall down for now.
Keith will have to make the call on this...............

hookman 08-05-2008, 12:37 PM Keith,

THIS IS FOR DEISEL CLASSES
ALL SPRINGS NEED TO STAY IN FACTORY POS.AND FACTORY WHEELBASE IF YOU NEED TO CUT THE FRAME TO MAKE A STRONGER HITCH POINT THEN I WOULD HAVE TO SAY NO MORE THEN:eek: 4TO5 INCHES THIS WOULD LET YOU GET TO A STRONGER HITCH ON THE TRUCK (FOR EXAP. SOME TRUCKS HAVE A U SHAPE END ON THE FRAME FROM THE FACTORY SO IF YOU FEEL THAT NEEDS TO BE CUT OF TO SUPORT YOUR NEW HITCH THEN I THINK THAT WOULD BE FOR SAFETY) AND KNOW ONE WOULD CRY ABOUT THAT (I HOPE)
BUT IF YOUR TALKING GAS CLASSES THEN GIVE ME A CALL WE HAVE LOTS OF RULES ,BUT I KNOW THIS IS NOTHING TO DO WITH GAS TRUCKS
AND KNOW ONE WOULD CRY ABOUT THAT (I HOPE)
I dont know about that. These Diesel pullers are a bunch of Crybabies. IMO
hookman 08-05-2008, 12:48 PM :pound:I dont know about that. These Diesel pullers are a bunch of Crybabies. IMO
:pound::pound: I DID NOT SAY THAT
TNRGreene 08-05-2008, 01:08 PM I understand that but this has nothing to do with strength. I just want to know how close to the rear end I can get the hitch. Gas or Diesel closer to the rear is better :D

What do the rules say? 60" or so???
TNRGreene 08-05-2008, 03:04 PM I have seen 44" from center of rear to the ring or the ring @ farthest rear point of truck. I was told if you back into a wall your hitch must hit first, minus bump bars.
A member here has emailed some pictures is why I was asking for clarification. If we can cut the frame I'm moving my hitch right over top of the rear housing. The further foward it can go the great advantage. Like hitch, I don't think 26 to 28 is a big deal but 26 to 31is though. My truck works best @ 24...go figure.
dieselbeef 08-05-2008, 04:58 PM so what you really need is a custom tapemeasure not a custom hitch:frusty::pound::D:D:Dhow bout dat!

I have 2 hitches :D 1 fits the 12" under thing I thought Keith has & the other fits NHDRA & NADM rules. I was told there are 2 Diesel trucks close to the rear end, I give out Keith's # & I still get asked
6.0superduty 08-05-2008, 06:32 PM I also heard that the hooking point could be no closer than 44" from the center of the rear end for any diesel class aside from outlaw/open. I was going to move mine up to that and get a roll pan some day. I guess its good this came up so I can clarify before I do anything. What is the official word? Thanks
Kyle
yeah... whats the word???
dieselbeef 08-06-2008, 07:49 AM tapemeasure
hookman 08-06-2008, 04:57 PM I don't no where you guys are getting these rules from but at the next pull we will talk about it but for now your hitch point for s/w/f/t/t/p is no farther then 12" from rear of bed floor this has been this way for 15 years and as for cutting your frames off that is only to make a safe pulling hitch so if you need to do that then 4/5" should be fine but if you think you can cut off feet don't all stock classes are to keep fact spring locations and as for this ? That keeps comeing up mike's truck looks to be good but we will look at this at the pull (if i took my stock truck and installed a hitch 12"uner the back i would have to say my hitch would be closer then his is to the rear end by him cutting off 4/5 " off the frame did not change his pull point but for know i'm done talking about mikes truck see me at the pulls
good luck and i'm takeing over the boss come jan 09

This post was asking you YOUR rules. Others have posted what other organizations are doing. I don't see anybody implying you should get in line with others organizations here. You are way to defensive, I have always said give me the rules & that's what I'll pull by. I do call flat out BULL**** on having to cut the frame for strength because if you have the skills to cut & move a hitch, you have the skills to modify & strengthen what is already there. There is ONE reason to shorten & that's for an advantage. I have no issues but it is what it is.

I agree 100%

I guess I need to start being clearer in my posts. My above reference is NOT about SFTP. I never implied that these were for SFTP.

I sent the pictures, they may look worse then they are but there is another truck that your guys must crawl under to hook it. Post the rules & all this will stop. It was a question, nothing more, just a question.
Aren't you already the boss? If not then who is in charge? I don;t see anybody saying these are YOUR rules, I read the term... "I heard" that does not make it gospel  That;s why I asked. I could go on & on but out of respect to other members I won't.

cheaters will do what it takes to win... even if someone has to get hurt!
FORDGIRL99 08-07-2008, 09:58 PM Those arent cheater hitches... Their winner hitches!
And thats why the hook point cant be any more than 12" forward from the rear of the truck & your truck should always be in park when it is being hooked and unhooked!!!
dieselbeef 08-08-2008, 09:38 AM leverage point shud be from rearmost spring hanger or rearend. overhang or not def give an advantage to diff style trucks...not that i know squat:pound:

That's your problem right there. You stayed @ a Holiday Inn but it had to be a Holiday Inn Express to be effective  :D
