: FYI On The ProComp Extreme A/T's
(Figured I would share this with the Floridians) My buddy had a pretty sweet 05 Powerstroked Ford. 7" of lift, 35" ProComp Extreme A/T's, dual exhaust with 56K on the truck. Last weekend while cruising down Route 08 (North Western Connecticut) after exit 42 northbound just after the straightaway, with his 30 day old daughter strapped in, he suffered a left front tire blow out at about 70mph. Through a metal post guide rail and off a steep embankment this is what's left. I guess there is a problem with these tires, nothing on the recall list as of yet. He sent me these pics to share with ya.
17K on the tires, the front left began to break apart at 70. He felt and heard two slaps against his front fender and then the Ford went for a ride that nobody wants to go on.

He's a little banged up, his daughter is fine. As he heard and felt the second slap on his left front fender, he reached back and checked to see if his daughter's seat was tight and the truck then veered hard to the left, sending him through that guide rail and off the embankment. I think someone was watching over those two last Saturday.
After he sent me the pics, I found this frightening link http://www.competitiondiesel.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36904&highlight=pro+comp+recall

WHITEPOWERstrok 01-15-2009, 12:18 AM i used to work at 4WP in tampa, and we sold bout 5-7 sets a week, it was the main tire we sold, everyone loved them.... for the 2.5 years i worked there, we prolly had bout 5 customers total come back that had a blow out. but for how many sets we sold, 5 sets aint too bad....
5 sets aint too bad....
They sold a lot because of the by three get one free deal. And, feel free to look up the problems Pro Comp is having with these tires, lawsuits left and right. This went on more than just blowouts, we're talking tread separation. Tread peeling away from the rest of the tire, just like on a retreaded tractor trailer tire. Pro Comp is very aware of what lot numbers were effected by this type of failure.

Yeah sorry about that, I was locked out! :(

im not disagreeing with u, i definitly understand whatcha mean, ive seen it before on them, although ive seen it before on plenty other brand tires too. and procomp dont always have the buy 3 get 1 free thing, it used to only be in the month of march, october, and then 1 day in december, but right before i quit a few months back, they had quit doin it. but we still sold way more xtreme at's than any other tire, the buy 3 get 1 free didnt have anything to do with it...
