So we are starting a 12v Build at GDP. The truck will be versatile enough to Mud, Tug, Sled Pull and whatever else we want to do with it. Below is a little info about the truck. What we need from you are suggestions for the Name of this truck. I have some ideas but though it would be fun to get some ideas from you!

So the truck is a 1995 Reg Cab Long Bed 4x4 Dodge. 12v Cummins engine and Auto transmission. I picked up the truck from a guy that brought it down from Illinois where it spent the winters working. Its Old, Rusty and has 323k Milkes on it, But the damn thing runs good. It WAS completely stock but we have added some one off parts made by Eddie and company @ GDP. It will get some mild fuel system and suspension upgrades but everything will be made in house. NO STORE BOUGHT PARTS.

We want to make this FUN because you only live once! So here are some of the names I thought of...

"Built not Bought"
"Dixie Wrecked" (Painted like the General Lee)
"Half Fast"
"Off in the Woods"
"Beaver Liquor"
"Liquor Box"
"Dueces Wild" (only if we decide to run 2.5ton)
"Boats n Hoes" (LOL Step-Brother)
...

I cant afford to build a truck with all new off the shelf parts so I run it until it wears out or breaks then upgrade.

What has GDP built that failed? I cant think of anything other than a hitch that was built with store bought components. And a trial set of traction bars that bent. Once strengthend/repaired both held up fine. Seems like they spend more time fixing other peoples/shops broke parts than actually doing new builds!

This is true... the Dodge parts arent holding up. When I was looking for a truck, I wanted a Cummins and I will have to replace those junk dodge components as they break. (I have the parts to P-pump it and eliminate the other "problem") Thats my point. The OEM parts are the ones breaking... not parts made or installed by GDP. Seems like "Tusker" has an axe to grind, and thats ok with me. But get some Facts!

I was avoiding this internet pissing match but since I got drug into it.

The stock GM unmodified turbo gave up after 54,000 miles & handing out many ass kickings. :D

Jr (GDP) & I have talked in person about issues and I won't do it online. I had a problem I went to him & I hope he will do the same if/when it happens

I would like to see Brad start pulling. Id also like to see Steve come back! That would make it a lot more fun IMHO. The more the merrier!!! Only problem would be most of us dont have the $ to compete at that level!

I doubt you'll see Steve there as much as he was before. It's just not fun anymore. The before & after is but. Truth is I had more fun when the truck went on the trailer. I doubt we'll go to Ft Myers, may go to Zellwood the next weekend instead. You also mention the money thing, we are driving the truck on the street again. I have no intention of hacking it up or investing what I don't have to be a dedicated puller. I get bored real easy, I guess I just got burned out, I'd rather just be a fan or help in another capacity.

Here's the thing GDP will do whatever the customer wants like Jit said not everbody has the money to make it the best now we have to just work with what we have till it breaks. An the 6.0 catchin on fire had nothin to do with GDP. The stuff with my truck was a freak deal but guess what GDP fixed it and it's better thenever. ;)

Sadly I could tell Steve wasnt really enjoying it! I dont think I will go to Ft. Myers either. I have yet to pull there and all I hear is how bad it sucks. With the economy down a lot of folks just cant afford to invest what they used to. And finding a sponsor especially in Florida is rare. Ive never owned a dedicated puller but I am sure its a lot of work & money. More than I can invest right now with both my sons playing baseball.

I forgot about zellwood... glad you brought it up. I wanted to make the next Zellwood pull. I like the laid back atmosphere up there!

Im not going to make it to FT Myers either. Going out of town. I want to go to Zellwood too. I want to pull my 4 wheeler also. Is the next one the weekend of the 25th?

damn....i posted a name a long time ago and forgot about this thread. Now when reading....there are some big f*ck!ng mouths. If you arent saying anything nice about my truck...keep it out of your mouth! He brought my truck up saying that I make HP and prove it with ET's...not a "dyno spike". But thats cool, i cant post up track slips cause my motor finally had enough of the week after week after week drag racing and dont forget about the hundreds of a$$ whoopings i have put from red light to red light! Nothing bad about GDP has come outta my mouth and I have yet to bash someones truck, so why bash mine? As for sled pulling, its not fun for me. I have no urge to modify my suspension to compete, it just isnt something im into doing. I like to watch and support the fellow diesels (who in return, only a couple come support the diesel racing) Same with Morse, he talked about building a truck for pulls when he was caught in the moment but then realized, its not his thing. To each their own i guess. All im saying (heard this from the parent before?) if you dont have something nice to say about me, dont say it at all! Or at least, say it to my face. :D

also..my truck did a little spike at 640something and then another at the same and another. not just 1 spike and then not another even close! thats why my HP in my signature has never changed until i get a accurate reading. And, i'm always willing to back my shiz up at the track! (except for this month) :damnit

It would probably end up costing more, but I would say two trucks, so if one has problems, who cares, we'll fix it another day. just my .02

That's good news about the cylinders. Don't sweat the internet crap, you have backed it up at the track already. Sometimes this keyboard racing gets out of hand just because you can't see if they are laughing while posting or cussing & I never say anything bad about your truck. If I had a Dodge it would look just like yours EXCEPT for the sorry looking tires you put on at the strip :eek: :D

Sometimes this keyboard racing gets out of hand just because you can't see if they are laughing while posting or cussing & I never say anything bad about your truck. If I had a Dodge it would look just like yours EXCEPT for the sorry looking tires you put on at the strip :eek: :D

haha...those are my drag slicks :D if it werent for out running vettes and stangs, i would keep the big tires on cause i still out run a lot of other people. I bet this new tune that killed my truck would have got me into the 12's with the 37's on! :damnit

It sucks being out with the slow one & someting happens where you wish you had the fast one :eek: Happens at least once a week, just last night again :damnit It's a good deal when something breaks though like the turbo did. We haven't touched it since the day after the last pull & won't until the 20th if even then. That part is nice.

Tell Brad and Dave to post video's of thier Full Pulls. That wont happen because they built those trucks to drag race. Ask solostyle what happend last time he ran on the dyno against another 3rd gen that just happened to have a GDP sticker on the windshield! Better yet why dont YOU post your ET's and video of pulling the sled out the back? then you wont have to ride others skirt tails!

I own a daily driver that occasionally Sled pulls. Oh and i love Koolaid, Grape is my favorite!

Dave I'm a little late on this post but trying to figure what set you off and this is the only thing I found and maybe I took it different. It wasn't a stab at you although I see how you took it that way, looks like JIT was ganged up on by that tusker and bullfrogjohnson. Seems like he was trying to prove a point that trucks break when you do what we(me, you, and GDP) do. He was getting mad and trying to defend GDP when he brought the dyno stuff up I wouldn't let it bother you IMO. If you didn't have one of the best trucks then people wouldn't talk about it.

Now for my .02. for tusker and bfjohnson. I have been pulling for three years with a dodge that has GDP on my windshield. I know trucks break and I know my time is comming, but to date I have never missed a pull and have never broke. My entire list of carnage is (so far) one u-joint. The u-joint broke on a pull off on hard track while spooling so it was just tired. I am so impressed with this truck as most people are that buy dodge. Just because you bought another brand doesnt mean the one you dont own is junk, and just because you will never have a GDP sticker on your truck doesnt mean GDP sucks. JIT was just asking for a name for his new progect truck not your opinions. :focus:

damn....i posted a name a long time ago and forgot about this thread. Now when reading....there are some big f*ck!ng mouths. If you arent saying anything nice about my truck...keep it out of your mouth! He brought my truck up saying that I make HP and prove it with ET's...not a "dyno spike". But thats cool, i cant post up track slips cause my motor finally had enough of the week after week after week drag racing and dont forget about the hundreds of a$$ whoopings i have put from red light to red light! Nothing bad about GDP has come outta my mouth and I have yet to bash someones truck, so why bash mine? As for sled pulling, its not fun for me. I have no urge to modify my suspension to compete, it just isnt something im into doing. I like to watch and support the fellow diesels (who in return, only a couple come support the diesel racing) Same with Morse, he talked about building a truck for pulls when he was caught in the moment but then realized, its not his thing. To each their own i guess. All im saying (heard this from the parent before?) if you dont have something nice to say about me, dont say it at all! Or at least, say it to my face. :D

1st thing that i find to be you talking shiz is by calling my truck...sh!t. i dont call peoples trucks sh!t cause its not....its a truck! You calling me out by saying another 3rd gen stepped up to me on a bullshiz dyno is another thing i take offensive. If you take that dyno day and claim thats what all of our trucks made HP wise, apparently you havent made it to a true dyno. Until another 3rd gen comes out to the track and hangs 1/4 with me, then they have nothing for me. I hope someone does, im tired of not having very much diesel support at the track. Its not like im the fastest anyhow and havent been for a long time. Brad will always have something for me and Steve had something also, and im really not much faster than a few other dodges that actually show. We were on our way to Jesse Black saloon when my motor gave out and im sorry to hear that your TRUCK broke. Would have been nice to root for a local guy in a big truck on truck pull but i definately would have never spoke and still havent spoke bad about a truck that is broke. I wash giving Josh a hard time for picking on fords:p As for the junk comment i was not referring to dodge trucks in general just the drivetrain they decided to use that must be upgraded to withstand and decent amount of power. As for my opinion just take it with a grain of salt;)

I pulled for 2 years before I broke a u-joint, ive been watching pulls up here in MD/PA for 4 years now and have not seen a single 3rd gen dodge break a drive line part aside from someone smoking a stock auto or stock clutch. We have some decent clay tracks too.

I was mostly reffering to the older 12v trucks with ujoint, axleshaft, t-case, balljoints, halfshaft joints issues

I just broke my first driveline part and I wasnt sled pulling but doing Tug-O-war. Pavement sucks! For the most part the big three use similar drive line components so to say one is infirior and blame it on the Auto makers crappy engineering doesnt really make much sense.

They all have junk torque converters in them!
Even the street drive daily drivers cant keep a clutch in them.
Ford and Dodge tranny's have small shafts.
Allisons arent much better above 600hp and will rarely shift properly. (seem to work great for tug-o-war though)

Dana Axles are pretty darn good and take a lot of abuse no matter what make they are under. The AAM's seem to be just as reliable. Ujoints and drive shafts are about equal. Only GM uses IFS which will break at even stock HP.
