Lightbulb new 2wd drive pulling truck needs some help

Hi.I am new to pulling been to a few with4x4 street truck nothing special get 50or so feet.But now I have a 1977 chevy camper special 2wd I want to run in the small block class we have here in RI.I have a 350 it's stock for now(remember I'm just starting so money is an issue)bolted to the stock t-400 I am hoping I can use the auto as our club is going from a dead sled to a transfer if not I have 3 spd for it.now here's where I need some help.where should hitch go?the 1' in from end of stock frame location or?and should I run it forward the max allowed?thanks in advance for any help
