Smokin' Open Class
We are thinking about running 2WD, 4WD gas and diesel in one class, for those who want to do it. The questions is should 2WD trucks be allowed to run cut tires, and what weight class should we run. 7500 or 8000?

sounds like fun! cut tires shouldnt be a problem as long as hitch height is the same... also 8000lbs so the 4x4 diesels can make weight

no cut tires for 2wd, give them a higher hitch, but cut tires are gonna walk all over anyone with a DOT tire, and they will rip up a track pretty bad making it even worse for DOT tires

another thing is, most of the gassers can't get that heavy. All the serious ones have stripped everything and normally pull in 5800 through like 6500. I talked to some last weekend and told them about the open class. I never really got an answer, but If we could accomodate their needs it would be a real crowd pleaser. maybe let them pull in whatever weight they pull the best in and just try to match all the other factors, like tires and hitch height?

Ryan I am sure will come in and give us some more things to think about, but I am pretty sure he is open to anything as long as it get's people to compete in this class. I know it's a real crowds pleaser to pit gas vs diesel and 4X4 vs 4X2.

We have an open class in 8,500 and we pull against some 2wd with cut tires and 30 in hitch. They are limited to 496 ci motors. Just last year the diesels have been beating them most of the time.
I don't think we would get any alochol 2wd trucks like the two that pulled in Inverness. I don't believe the diesel would stand a chance then. I know the 2wd will compete in the 8,000lb class. I think there should be two weight classes for the Open cause the gas trucks just would want to pull more than once.

Well if we want to get them to bring it on, I know where there is a retired NTPA 4-wheel drive Alchol truck(cut tires) that only comes out once a year around here. He may bring it out if he hears they may be prize winnings for a open class. There is another truck with a blower that may want to pull if he rebuilt the motor he blew up at our track last year. It would be interesting to see them run against some 2.8 or 3.0 diesels.
We went to a pull down in south Ga and I talked to some boys with 4x4 gas truck with D.O.T tires. 1 out of the 3 I talked to said they would pull against the diesels. Other two said it was too heavy at 7,500lbs, the other guy said he just wanted to pull. There was more trucks just didn't get a chance to talk to them. The easiest thing may be just to leave it as Outlaw(run what you brung), cut tires, blowers, 2wd, 4wd, whatever and see what shows up for that class!
